NORMAN, Okla. . -- Ohio State and Oklahoma, the top two teams in the APs all-time rankings, will meet Saturday with the high stakes one might expect in such a matchup.Ohio State (2-0), which topped the all-time chart, is ranked No. 3 nationally this season. A strong non-conference win would strengthen the Buckeyes case for a spot in the College Football Playoff, should they be in position to be considered at seasons end.Oklahoma (1-1), No. 2 in the all-time rankings, is No. 14 this season after losing its season opener to Houston. The Sooners need a boost to get back near the top of this seasons poll and earn a chance to possibly return to the Playoff. A loss would likely knock the Sooners out of contention. You talk about the playoff picture, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield said. This is a big game for later on down the road. Were not focusing on that, but it does have the potential to affect later on in the season. Then theres the Heisman race. Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, the fifth-place finisher in 2014, matches up against Mayfield, the fourth-place finisher in 2015. Both are in position to vault into the forefront of the conversation.Thats not all. Two of the best coaches in the business, Ohio States Urban Meyer and Oklahomas Bob Stoops, will match wits. Then theres pride. The programs have met twice. Oklahoma won 29-28 in Columbus, Ohio, in 1977. Ohio State won 24-14 in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1983.When you play these games and win them, its a boost, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. Theyre exciting for everybody. Theyre challenging and theyre great competition that youre going against. They can give you a lift when you win.Meyer said hes glad this isnt the opener for his young team, yet knows going to Norman is a true test.Im glad we have two under our belt for the new guys to play a little bit, he said. Weve got a lot of respect for their personnel. Were facing a very good team. Here are some things to look for in the game on Saturday:CURTIS SAMUEL: Samuel, Ohio States H-back, had nine catches for 177 yards against Bowling Green and ran 13 times for 84 yards. Against Tulsa, he caught five passes for 62 yards and ran eight times for 78 yards. Each week, they progress him more as a running back, Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. There were perimeter plays with him before, now theyre starting to run him up inside. You just have to be conscious of where hes at and what you want to do with him.JOE MIXON: Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine is closing in on all kinds of school records, but Mixon is having the better season. The sophomore has 320 all-purpose yards in two games. He ran for 117 yards last week against Louisiana-Monroe. Hes a threat as a receiver, runner and as a return man.OHIO STATE D: The Buckeyes have allowed just two field goals this season. The only touchdown scored on the Buckeyes came on an interception return.Theyre just physical, Mayfield said. Theyre all around good players. Yeah, they lost a lot of people from last year, but that doesnt matter. They do a good job recruiting and filling in the spots.BALL HAWKS: Ohio State already has three interception returns for touchdowns by three different players. Mayfield occasionally struggles with forcing throws, so hell need to be careful against such an aggressive unit.BIG ANDREWS: Oklahomas 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end Mark Andrews has five catches and three touchdowns this season. For his career, he has 24 receptions and 10 touchdowns. Hes a matchup problem who could create openings for his teammates.---Follow Cliff Brunt (at)CliffBruntAP. . Capitals head coach Adam Oates said Ovechkin was injured in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday and clarified it was not a head injury. .ca NBA Power Rankings, ahead of the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. .Y. -- Injured Buffalo Sabres forward Marcus Foligno did not practice with the team Monday and head coach Ron Rolston said its unlikely hell play in Wednesdays season opener in Detroit. A group of Newcastle businessmen have put forward a proposal for the Knights to become community-owned by raising at least $15 million in a share offering in the NRL club. The plan was made public on Saturday under the banner Our Knights One Chance with the chief ambition for the embattled club to follow in the footsteps of the NFLs Green Bay Packers and be owned by local fans. The Knights have been in the hands of the NRL since 2014 when former mining magnate Nathan Tinkler relinquished his three-year ownership of the club. The NRL last month announced it had rejected all bids to buy the Knights, who have struggled both on and off the field in recent times and collected this seasons wooden spoon after winning just one game. The group of seven local businessmen have asked for fans to register their interest in the proposal and if after three months theres sufficient support, they will look to sell shares in the club. They will be for sale for $500 per share and shareholding will be capped at four per cent for each person orr organisation. ts hoped the new ownership structure would be in place for the start of the 2018 season.Of the minimum $15 million thats required, about half of that would be put towards addressing current trading deficiencies and restructure the Knights operations for the first three years of operations. The mission statement says the restructure would give the club back to the fans would have a vested interest in its success.Over the last few years, our team has been let down by uncertainty and ownership changes. But lets change that. Now is the time to make a stand, reads an excerpt from the website Knights proposal comes just months after a similar plan was launched to save Super Rugby franchise the Western Force.RugbyWA announced a fan ownership model by selling 5000 certificates at $1000 each to raise $5 million and prop up the financially fragile club.
